stolen from giscelle's blog :)

91 words
it's like typing tutor. i loved that program...they took paragraphs from nancy drew mysteries for practice runs and tests. speaking of which:
i started collecting them in grade 3 or 4 i think but stopped when i got to canada. i had wanted sweet valley twins from my parents but my mom thought that it would be better for me to read these instead. i loved sweet valley though...kids, twins and high. i remember when i used to borrow the svh ones from my aunt who was still in high school. i used to hide them from my mom because i remember being scandalized by the kissing scenes in them. you can't blame me though. they were really adultish compared to the sv kids.
other series i read as a kid were babysitters' clubs, goosebumps and some hardy boys. i also loved loved archie comics (although i prefer reading betty&veronica).
in grade two or three i think i started reading little women already. jo is and will always be my favorite. i hated amy because she was a brat and she ended up with laurie. and even worse she's played by kirsten dunst who i cannot stand. i also read hans christian andersen fairytales which were really morbid. of course the little mermaid that you know now is not the original story. (if you don't want me to spoil it for you, skip this part!) she does get her legs, but every step she takes is supposed to hurt like daggers. it all ends tragically too- she throws herself into the ocean and turns into foam. yes. i used to read those when i was a child.
in grade 6 i really loved katherine paterson's books...she wrote bridge to terabithia. that was the first book i had to study in canada for language arts. people in my class were shocked that i finished it right away. (yeah, i'm a nerd). my favorite one by her though is jacob have i loved. that one made me cry so much.
and then in grade 7&8 i attacked mrs. onody's reading corner and read almost every book. from horror stories, v.c andrews to charles dickens, victor hugo, charlotte bronte, among others. i used to read so much. now i can't read as much because there's way too much reading for school.
and then in high school, grade 9 to be specific, i discovered jane austen and pride & prejudice. :)
university came and i was exposed to a lot of novels...old ones, modern ones, dirty ones like lady chatterley's lover and white hotel. through my english lit classes i found sylvia plath, dorothy livesay who are a few of my favorite poets. i also found my love for plays...glass menagerie, after the fall, i claudia, amadeus, cat on a hot tin roof.
and then there are the french ones that i've come to love: la cantatrice chauve, les belles-soeurs, littoral, a toi pour toujours ta marie lou, being at home with claude, provincetown playhouse. and now, believe it or not, i've come to love my french plays this year: tartuffe, le misanthrope, britannicus and phedre.

i can't wait for the summer though so i can read books that i actually want to read.
i will just have to stay away from depressing ones. this past summer i read anna karenina, tess of the d'ubervilles and the scarlet letter right after the other. my mom thought that i was depressed. haha.

now this one is from bmv in downtown. look at that loveliness:
now back to work. argh.

things i learned today.

(okay, yeah i said that i was going to take a break, but i can't)
1. there is no such thing as an organized mess: it's easier to work in your room when it's pretty and clean. it really helps when it's tidy...you think much better.
2. heating up a pizza pop (pop, not pocket) for a minute and then heating it again afterwards for another minute produces better results than heating it up for a full two minutes. the cheese doesn't explode all over the plate.
3. professor berube is adorable when given simple things like chocolate. he blushes like a tomato. so cute!
4. it's better to keep quiet when your mother is mad. :D
5. it's best to not ask for everyone's opinion regarding your essay or you will feel lost and screwed afterwards.
6. that viva pink takes fricking long and that after 8:13 am they discontinue their green bus. ARGH.
7. the "brekwich" breakfast sandwiches at coffee time (at selected branches) are pretty good and very filling. i had one at 10 am and didn't need to eat again until 4 in the afternoon.
8. that the girls in my class are not catty and that they're actually nice. which brings me to the next point...
9. i should really stop judging people. girls in particular. boys are not bad. i get along with them just fine. sometimes girls can be soooo............augh.
10. that having a crucifix in front of you really helps a lot when you need to get your work done.

adieu adieu, pour le moment.

i am going to try to go on a brief hiatus...just till next week. i am freaking out so much right now and every stupid little thing is setting me off. it's really nice how march rush (yes, reminiscent of the june rush for those who know) has coincided with my pms. augh. schoolwork in a small amount of time+pms=zits, sobbing spells and angry siblings (and bloated arms, stomach, legs. AUGH)
i feel like i've been doing work non-stop. i want out. now.

ha. and to dangle the bait even further...look what i got in the mail:
plus 7 more others.
you can't believe how stupid and idiotic i felt for every pose i made. but it doesn't look bad at all! the cheapest package is like $160.95. i don't want the really big ones...they're too tacky. but that's just me.
so i will try to not blog for a while (and stalk other people's blogs, for that matter). but if i come crawling back it's because i just can't take the stress anymore and need some comforting.

happy easter!

ohmy. i literally spent 4 hours in the kitchen, preparing for easter dinner. i got nothing done, schoolwise, anyway. but now i know more things to make for next time.

scalloped potato gratin. this was a tyler florence original but i decided to add bechamel sauce.

herbed parmesan yorkshire popovers - a mini flavorful version of yorkshire pudding

mississippi mud cake. a paula deen original, except i didn't add nuts and didn't flood it with chocolate icing, and i stuck it in the warm oven for a few minutes so that the marshmallows get all crispy-ish on the top and gooey in the inside. the first pic is before it went into the oven the second time.
main course was horseradish-crusted prime rib with homemade gravy. that was from tyler florence too. hehe.

and that is all. i hope everyone had a beautiful easter. :)

a true man romances the same girl for the rest of her life.

i am, always have been and will always be a romantic.
a movie didn't interest me unless it had some love story between a girl and a boy. my dad used to bring us home so many movies to watch. the following are videos of the most romantic scenes from movies i saw as a kid. do you remember any of them??? and come on, you've got to watch them :)

a dream worth keeping, from ferngully. my sister and i thought that this was pretty romantic too. but now that i look at it...jumping from puddle to puddle is quite cheesy. but it's still good :) and scandalous for little children to be watching...batting eyelashes...swimming in the dark...in a two piece. haha.

kiss the girl, from little mermaid. my MOST FAVORITE disney movie. the very first one i saw too. yes, call me lame, but i had a crush on prince eric. i blame this on my lack of exposure to guys, being in an all-girls school and all during my developmental years. ha. ariel, btw, is 16 years old while she was doing all this. she wanted legs, i wanted guys. muahaha. jk ;)

let me be your wings, thumbelina. i remember when my dad first took this home for us to watch...it was on beta. hehehe.

far longer than forever, from swan princess. :( sob. it's like my theme song. i saw the real ballet of it when i was young. i loved the part when odette transformed into her evil self. all they did was wrap her in this cloth and from a white tutu she emerged into a black one.

remember me this way, casper. the most romantic scene ever. except, the following doesn't really make any sense:

casper doesn't look anything like devon sawa. or sound like him either. and why did bill pullman look like bill pullman as a ghost? (i hated him for dying. if he didn't die, casper and christina ricci would have been together forever. (i had the hugest crush on him, btw. i loved him in little giants. i used to imagine that i was becky)

i came home and this is what greeted me:

john's package finally arrived. the presents are lovely, my love. :) je t'aime :x

cute bowl

card holder

pretty necklace

les chaussures

a box of playing cards from tiffany's!!!i actually just wanted the box (yes, the jewelry is not necessary). they're so beeyootiful!

more favorite things:

this is my mom's, but i've claimed it. it keeps me warm. it's kinda like a grownup blankie.hehe

this is from a shabby chic store in downtown. i couldn't resist...i had to take it home!

a pencil that i had since high school! this was A's first, then leslie took it and then i "borrowed" it from him. can't do my work without it.

i also fixed up my room a bit. my dad finally put up my audrey frames...i was worried that it would look like a shrine, but they're not bad at all.

and c'est tout. i should really do work now. argh.

my friends left for rome on friday for the UNIV congress. i was fortunate and blessed to have been able to go last year. here are a few pics...i've been feeling really nostalgic, just because i was there for holy week, which starts today.

at the airport avec les autres.
first pic in rome! waiting for the bus to take us to the station.
bella.
wonderful columns. more columns to come!
palm sunday! with the pope! at st. peter's.
the amazing crowd at st. peter's. we love the pope.
columns at st. peter's.elephant trees, as i call them. they're so tall. i wonder if they existed in caesar's time. hehe.
narrow spaces between the rooftops.
romantic tables. perfect for dining al fresco.
even with the crowds, the vespas still manage to pass through. it's really dangerous walking in what we canadians might consider alleyways. hehe.
very brave spanish boy trying to get the pope to look out from his apartment window to talk to us. and he did! he was so awesome and it was so amazing i was in tears.
missed him! i thought i was going to be able to get a good one but...
augh! missed him again!!! next time i go to rome, i'm going to have a better and faster camera!
with nicolette in the background. haha. kinda freaky.

spanish steps.
i forget where i took this from. but let's just say that it's one of the last pictures that i took before raiya, natalie and i realized that we were lost. the other girls had accidentally left us. but it was a fortunate accident! it was exciting being lost in a city we've never been in. it was quite an adventure. we were able to find our way back home.
gelato! i had gelato everyday there. my favorite was avocado and nutella and hazelnut. this is not a good example though of the generous portions they give us. this is from a cafe at the vatican, so it's a really touristy serving. if you go to a further away from st. peter's, the ones that you'll find in the "alleyways", they serve them in big, gigantic mounds. it's sooooooo good.
the trevi fountain! i've been dying to see this, ever since classical studies in grade 9 and hillary duff's lizzie maguire movie. hehe. but yeah, natalie and i had the entire day to ourselves! i cannot believe that we went to a lot of the sites in rome without a grownup or a tourguide. all we needed was our metro pass, a map, camera and money.
market beside the trevi fountain. yummy fruit. everything in rome tastes better. i regret that i never took pictures of their coffee or the staple italian bread we had for breakfast every morning. because those were the best. i would have a roll of bread, a bowl of cereal and two cups of their coffee every morning. their coffee tasted sooooooooooooooooo good. once you have it, you can never go back to timmy's.
and italians have their own metro too (the metro newspaper)!
school of athens
vatican museum
more heads. or busts.
shoes that i got for...10 euros. i got a striped red and white one. sadly i've only worn them once in rome. i haven't worn them at all ever since i got back.
pieta. it was breathtaking. i turned to my right and this what i saw.
inside st. peter's.
in the coliseum. getting ready to use the washrooms. sadly the washrooms in bella roma are really dirty. or really busy. one time i had to resort to using the men's washroom because i really had to go. surprisingly this one wasn't so stinky.
where they did gladiator battles. they used to spray perfume in the air so that they could hide the stench that was emanating from the dead bodies in the field.
postcard-perfect. :)

burger king. i have to tell you, even though the italian food was good, i missed good old french fries and burgers. the combo came with a donut. haha.
at the roman forum. this was so national geographic. beautiful ruins everywhere, each with its own history.

look at the tops!they said that this is where they burnt caesar.
st. paul and st. peter were imprisoned here. this was the miraculous fountain that sprung up from their cell so that they could baptize the prisoners that wanted to be christians. beautiful, isn't it? st. peter and st. paul are some of my favorite saints.
mouth of truth. we wanted to be able to see it and we were in a hurry, so my friends and i actually ran on the circus maximus. i thought it would be something like the coliseum, but now it's just this one great long field.
last gelato in rome. :(with the other canadian girls from vancouver and ottawa.

so there it is. there's no better way to spend holy week but in rome. they make a big deal out of easter there, which they should. and on holy thursday, all you have to do is hop from one church to another to do the visits to 7 churches because the churches are all so close to each other...and it's so beautiful to see children, teenagers, older ones, people of all ages staying there late at night and praying.
